How to Play Arrow Sudoku

Arrow Sudoku is a popular Sudoku variant that combines classic Sudoku rules with additional arrow clues. Use logic to fill the grid so that all Sudoku and arrow constraints are satisfied.

Classic Sudoku Rules

  • Fill every empty cell with a digit from 1 to 9.
  • Each row must contain every digit from 1 to 9 exactly once.
  • Each column must contain every digit from 1 to 9 exactly once.
  • Each 3×3 box must contain every digit from 1 to 9 exactly once.

Arrow Sudoku Rules

  • Each circle contains a digit equal to the sum of the digits along its connected arrow.
  • The digits on an arrow must add up exactly to the number shown in the circle.
  • Standard Sudoku rules still apply to all cells in the grid.
  • Use both Sudoku logic and arrow sums to determine the correct digits.

Example

If a circle contains the number 8 and its arrow covers two cells, those cells could contain 3 and 5 because 3 + 5 = 8.

Solving Tips

  • Start with arrows that have very small or very large totals.
  • Use missing digits in rows, columns, and boxes to narrow possibilities.
  • Combine Sudoku elimination techniques with arrow sum constraints.
  • Look for arrows where only a few digit combinations are possible.

Arrow Sudoku puzzles provide an enjoyable mix of arithmetic reasoning and classic Sudoku deduction, making them a favorite among logic puzzle enthusiasts.
